Rumbustification Day

 

-Rumbustification Day- 

I made cards with the little kids and watched the karaoke. I took this photo with some of my friends. On the top right is Breanna, next to her is Brooke, and then Maria and Me. On the bottom lie is Charlotte and Ava.

At the start of the day we went surfing, the tide was really high and me and my friends stood on a moutain of sand. At the end of surfing Mr Redmond bought us all a long lolly snake. I also bought myself an iced chocolate and a small chocolate chip cookie.

In Rongomatane there was card making, in Papatuanuku there was face painting and makerspace, in Tane Mahuta there was karaoke, and in Tawhirimatea there was a photo booth

Charlotte, Jessica and I tryed to do as many of the activities as we could. 

We went on some of the crazy bikes like the 3 person bike.

Then we spent some time with the Guinea Pigs in Papatuanuku. The baby ones name is Rusty and the other one is called Oreo.

At the end of the day most of the school went to the AstroTurf to do some games of Tug-of-war.

Yr 8 Formal

 Yesterday we went to the year 8 formal. We got to choose what we had for dinner. The options were chicken, pork, beef, potato salad, pasta salad, coleslaw and bread rolls. I had chicken, beef, pasta salad and bread rolls. After dinner we did Kareoke.

 Today we did another 100 question sheet.

I have improved from last time because this time my time was 6:33 and my score was 99%

My goal for next time is to get 100% in 5:00 or under.

 Today me and my buddy (charlotte) made directions on a map to guide another group to a destination of our choice. We chose to take them to one of the playgrounds but we amde them go around in circles to get there.

 We are learning how to find a fraction of a number.

We use two steps to do this

4/5 of 45

1. Divide the number by the denominator (45÷5= 9)

2. Then multiply the answer to that by the numerator (9x4=36)

so the answer is 35!

Camp

Wainui Camp

This week we went to Wainui camp.

 Resiliance:

I had resiliance when we wee doing Orienteering because it started raining and it got very cold but I kept going and finding the marks.

Success 

We had success when we were trying to find Bob, the search and rescue dummie, we found is clothes, sleeping bag and backpack, Then we found him decapitated under a tree.

Imaginative

I used my imagination when we were doing shelter and fire building because we had to imagine that we were stuck on an sland with no shelter.

Belonging

Belonging to a group helped me because my group was very encouraging in high ropes and beach explore and they were encouraging me to keep going.

The science behind the question is you need the basics to be able to stay alive - Oxygen, water, something to keep you warm, (eg. clothing, blankets, etc.) food, a way to exercise, a way to do your business... But what could you sacrifice, what do you need the most?

At the moment I have finished painting the hole Diarama, but we still have some things to do. We have to design and add the look of a space station so it looks as accurate as possible. After we have finished the box from top to bottom, my group  are collaborating with another group to make a news report showing and solving both of our Problems.

What Are You Hoping To Have Done After The Next Week?...

I am hoping to of finished my Diorama and a news report that shows both mine and the team I am collaborating with's work. I also really hope that everyone that reads or watches my work learns something.

Our problem is how we are going to stay fit and healthy on the space flight. 

We will have dried food, like beef and Ice cream. There can be a gym 

on the spce flight as well.

Nobody knows about the alien you found.  You’ve kept it secret.  You smuggled it into your bedroom, kept it warm and fed.  Surely it won’t cause any trouble...

“OK, you need to stay here.” “Buzzzz” “GT, Shhhhhhh! You have to be Quiet!” I Quickly ran to my bedroom door and peeked out to make sure my parents didn’t hear it. “GT, I’m going to get some food, stay hidden.” I said as I hid him in my sock draw. I walked down the stairs to get some cereal, and suddenly I heard a loud crash coming from my room. I dropped the cereal box on the bench and ran to my room. I was halfway up the stairs when my mum yelled “Elle! What was that noise coming from your room?” “Ummm, It was my T.V, I’m watching a program and must have forgotten to turn it off when I came to get food.” “OK” My mum said suspiciously. I walked up to my room to find my dresser had tipped over, “GT! What did you do!” “Buzz Buzz?” I hear footsteps walking up the stairs, I Think to myself “Oh no, I’m dead.” *Knock Knock* I walk over to my door and slowly open it. My mum is standing there, she peeks into my room and says “WHAT IS THAT!!!” She points at GT and says we need to take it to the shelter, NOW!” I refuse and say “You can’t, I’ve had him for 2 weeks and you haven’t even noticed!” “I don’t care it’s not staying here”

Science in Lockdown

Today for science in Lockdown I made moon craters using flour, sprinkles and coco powder.

First put some flour on a plate, make sure to spread it evenly, next put sprinkles on top and finish with an even layer of coco powder.

Get a small stone and drop it from about half a meter above the plate, this will create a small hole, that is a crater, on the moon they are a lot bigger and they are caused by huge rocks that fall onto the moon.

Tech

 Technology

Today at Tech I made the trunk for my Elephant picture frame i cut it out with the scroll saw and then sanded it to round the edges. I used a file to create the crinkles in the trunk. Next week I will glue the trunk to the frame.

At cooking we made chocolate cupcakes after putting the ingredients in the bowl and mixing we put it in the oven and  Maria's over flowed. They had pieces of chocolate and caramel in the middle and chocolate on top.

 How to divide by 6

If it is an even number (Can be divided by 2)

If it can be divided by 3

These are the rules of dividing by 6

372 can be divided by 6 because it is an even number (It ends with 0,2,4,6 or 8)

If you add the numbers together like this:

3+7+2=12

and then if you can divide the answer by 3 like this:

12÷3=4

372 can be divided by 6

 3 Division

Today we learnt how to divided big numbers.

(2) Can be divided if it ends in 0,2,4,6,8

(10) Can be divided by 10 if it ends in 0

(5) Can be divided by 5 if it ends in 5 or 0

(3) Can be divided by 3 if you add the digits  and the answer can be divided by 3

2486 - 2+4+8+6= 20

20÷3=6.5

Wrong!

2+4+8+5=19

19÷3=xxx 

You cannot divide 19 by 3!

Spencer Park trip

 Spencer Park Trip

On Tuesday we went to Spencer Park, we got to choose what group we wanted to do. The options were Running, Run/walking or Walking. I was part of the Run/walking. It was a 7 km Run/walk. Once we finished, we got a to have food and go on the playground, they also cooked sausages on the barbecue. Then we took the vans and parents cars back to school. I ran 3km and walked 4km.

Overall I think the trip was really fun!

 Today we had Technology, this term I have been doing cooking and woodwork.

Wood works

Today for woodwork we finished designing our picture frames, I decided to do an Elephant face. Then we cut out the design of our small frame, we cut it out with  scroll saw. My design for my small frame is a whales tale.

Cooking

Today we made baked potatoes, first we washed and cooked the potatoes, we cooked them in the microwave for 10 minutes. After that we cut up the onion and cooked it in the fry pan on medium heat for 2 minutes, after 2 minutes we put the mince in to cook with the onion, once that was brown we put the beans, corn and taco mix in the fry pan as well. Then we look that off the heat after letting it simmer for a while. We got the potatoes out of the microwave and let them cool slightly while we grated the cheese, after they were cooled we put it together, we cut the potatoes in half and filled them with the mince and cheese. We put then in the oven on 200 degrees fan forced until the cheese was melted, we took it out of the oven and waited for it cool. Then we got to eat them! They were very good, and I would definitely make them again!

 Multiplication & Division

Today for maths we did two 100 question maths tests. 

For the multiplication test I got two questions wrong, 6x7=42 and 7x6=42, 

I got 98/100.

For Division I got four questions wrong, 6÷6=1, 7÷7=1, 24÷8=3, 48÷8=6,

I got 96/100

Over all I think that I did really well on my Division and Multiplication.

On wednesday we walked to Avonside High school to watch their Production of Footloose, We were one of the first schools there, after us about four more schools arrived, The Production lasted about two hours, they were also performing for the public on Wednesday Night, Thursday Night and Friday Night, Over all I think the Production was very good.😁

Countdown

For the Past few weeks Maea, Greta, Brooke, Freya, Charlotte and I have been working on a scarpbook and video for the countdown staff members, We made them because we heard about what happened in Dunedin and we also heard that they get treated badly quiet often so we wanted to do something nice for them. We got some students from each classroom to right a nice message on a sticky note, we stuck them in the scraobook and decorated the page, we also got the students to be in a video to shout Thank you, we got our whole class to be in the video as well.

Trip to town (Tumahana Performance)

                      Trip to Town (Tumahana Perfornmance)      30/3/21

Yesterday (29/3/21) we went into town for the day. We went to Victoria square, while the Yr 7's went to Margret Mahy Playground. We learnt about the Migration to New Zealand, we learnt about some of the things that were there like the phone box, and the statues. There was a piece of paper that we got that had photo's, with an explanation on what the task was. For the weeping willows task we had to try and draw them. We had to draw the phone box but see if we could make it better.

After we had done that the Yr 7's came over to us and we all had lunch, we then went to the town hall to watch the Tumahana Performance. Something that I learnt at the performance was that our classroom is called Tangaroa, but in the south island they call it Takaroa, and we call it Ranginui but they call it Rakinui

Sneaky Snakes~ Maths

For maths we have been doing the sneaky snakes game. We had to play the game 20 times and collect data from each game, We then had to put it into a chart of the average amount of rolls it took to get to the end.

I think that my average was about 5.

This week for maths we have been making google forms and sending them out to people. I only got 10 responses. This was the graph that I made.

As you can see people like the wraps more than anything else with pasta coming a close second.
 

Gymnastics Day!

~Gymnastics Day~

Today we went to the Christchurch school of gymnastics!

We had to walk there but it isn't very far away. 

We were put into teams of about 10. 

The first thing that we did wasthe trampoline, we had to jump and touch our feet and then jump into the foam pit.

Then we move on to the floor, there was some mats that we had to put our feet on and Some dots that we put our hands on. There were different heights and at the end there was a block that we had to try and cartwheel over. I wasn't very good at that part.

After that we went on to the bars, we just had to try and lift ourselves up, that was pretty easy.

After that we moved on to the beams, again that was pretty easy we just had to balance and walks sideways and backwards. Walking backwards was really hard though, it was hard because I couldn't see if I was going to fall off.

We then moved onto the other trampoline, this trampoline was longer than the other one. We had to jump to the end and got onto some blocks that were on the ground, there was blocks that were small and we had to jump off of them and they kept getting bigger, there were three blocks the last one was really fun. We also had to jump backwards and spin and do all sorts of things.

I really liked Gymnastics, It was so fun!

Maths (100 questions)

 Today for maths we did 100 questions and this time I got 100/100!

This has been my goal for a while now and my time was 9 minutes and 20 seconds.

There is one question that I think I need to get better, that question is 7x9= 63, I keep having to work it out with my fingers. Hopefully soon I will know it well.

Swimming

We have been doing swimming and we have been working on three strokes freestyle, backstroke and Breaststroke.

Freestyle:

For freestyle we have been working on keeping our heads under the water so that we can kick faster.

Backstroke:

For backstroke we have been working on throwing our arms back to make us go faster.

Breaststroke:

We have been working on going slowly and doing small arms.

My goal in to get better at backstroke and to get faster.

Today at tech we made some more puzzles, I made a puzzle with a straight line and heaps of wavy lines and we had to cut it out. then I made a heart puzzle and did the same thing. Then I did cooking, I made a hamburger we first made the patties and then put the stuff in the burger bun I put lettuce pineapple cheese and sauce in.

Today for P.E we ran with tyres and did dancing.

Running with tyres

Today we started with an tyre run. We had to run up to the second cone, drop the tyre, step in and then out with each leg, get in the tyre pick it up and run to the first cone drop the tyre and get out of it, pick it up and run back.

This is my literacy that I have been working on. It is an ad about being a scuba diving pizza delivery man.

Technology

 Yesterday at tech we did plastics and cooking.

Plastics

At Plastics we made a hanger for doors. We made them by having a piece of plastic and bent it with the strip heater and press it up against something flat to keep it bent until it it was done. After that we drew some lines on a piece of wood and cut the lines to practice our cutting.

Cooking

For cooking we made meatballs and wedges first we prepped the wedges by cutting them up and putting them in a bowl with oil and spices then we shook it up and put it in the oven after that we made the meatballs and put them in the oven and took them out and ate them. They were really yum!
